Annual Migration

Alright, don't get used to this blogging every day business. Right now I'm doing it because classes haven't started. After Wednesday, I'll be lucky to get one post a week. So, today we spent most of the afternoon at Doe River Gorge. We rode there on school buses, which was neat considering I've never been on an actual school bus before.

Now, for everyone who doesn't know, the freshman trip to Doe River Gorge is called "The Annual Migration of the Buffalo Nation." I personally thought it was kind of weird when I first heard it, but after seeing everyone getting out of the vans and going toward the tent, I could understand them calling it a migration. It looked like one:

The lake there is small, but a lot is going on. I got to play volleyball (well, I stood there and watched the rest of my team play anyway), I climbed up the 'floating mountain' as I call it, played in the sand, took pictures, and went down the zip-line. There was definitely plenty to do. Here's a shot of the lake:

I took some shots of my friends, Tess, Darcie, and Jessica going down the zip-line. I'm pretty sure they enjoyed themselves on it. Darcie and Jessica even went up to do it a second time. Here are the few photos that I got:

Here's a shot of my team playing volleyball. As you can tell, I didn't help them much. Thank goodness no one minded that I was horrible.

Here's a photo of my friend, Oscar, jumping onto the 'blob.' This was one thing I did not get around to doing. I have rather unpleasant childhood memories of jumping on and not liking it. I decided I'd stick with other activities.

As I said, I also played in the sand with Tess. I felt like a little kid again, but that was completely alright with me. The product of our playing was a sad version of the Milligan 'M':

After that busy afternoon, we had dinner and then we went to Vespers. Although I didn't know any of the songs that were sung, I did enjoy myself. I suppose I'll just have to learn the songs soon. Here are shots of Milligan students during worship:

Once vespers were over, everyone loaded back onto the buses. Sadly, instead of having four buses, like we had on the way there, we only had three. So, it was a very crowded half-hour ride. Thankfully, someone on our bus started singing. Before too long, everyone was singing snippets of Disney music, silly songs, and the like. It was very nice, even if we were in a very confined space.

After we got back to Milligan, we had an impromptu worship session over at Webb (a guys' dorm). At first, there were only a few people, but we had a pretty large group for a while. I'll leave you with some photos from our guitar/ukelele lead music session:
